A radiant smile can significantly boost your confidence and leave a lasting impression. However, for those with a "gummy smile," where an excessive amount of gum tissue is visible, this can be a source of self-consciousness.

Increased Risk of Stroke and Dementia Are Linked to Gum Disease
Continued research highly supports that periodontitis (gum disease) — a constant, low-grade inflammation and infection of the gums — increases the risk of ischemic stroke (the most common type) as well as dementia due, in part to the chronic inflammation in the gums.

Good Oral Health Equals Better Brain Health
Maintaining healthy teeth and gums is not only important for oral health but can also have an impact on overall health, including brain health.

Keeping Bad Breath at Bay
With the holidays revving up and more people coming together this year, you’ll want to be sure your breath isn’t a party faux pas. Besides avoiding garlic and onions at the get-together, follow the below tips to tackle bad breath. We do have a caveat, however. That being some bad breath won’t be helped by any of these remedies because there’s a graver underlying issue involved and that, dear friends and patients, is something you should not ignore and need to make an appointment to come see us.

Mouth Breathing is a More Serious Issue Than You Thought
The hit Netflix series Stranger Things may have rekindled the derogatory term “mouth breather” that’s been in and out of use since 1915, but what you might not know is there’s a lot of science around mouth breathing and none of it has to do with intelligence. It does, however, have a lot to do with a person’s oral and overall health.

Does Smiling Affect Your Health?
The resounding answer is yes, smiling affects your health. And it does so in a multitude of positive ways. No wonder many quotes and poems about smiling exist from across the ages. Below we’ve listed a few ways a smile is good medicine. Turns out our motto, we change lives, not just smiles is truer than ever.

Your Dental Needs Met Under One Roof
Have you ever had to travel to different places to have a procedure done? Even a simple visit to the doctor might wind up entailing visits to various specialists in different locations. It can be frustrating, to say the least.

A Link Between Gum Disease and Colon Cancer
Brushing, flossing, and visiting your dentist for cleanings twice per year is imperative to not only your oral health but your body’s overall health.

What Should You Look for in a Cosmetic Dentist?
Finding a trusted source for your cosmetic dentistry is important. But how or where do you start? If you want more than teeth whitening, you’ll want to know this information (although it’s still a good idea to find out some of this). With cosmetic dentistry being a service The Houston Dentists has offered for more than 30 years, we can help answer all of your questions.

Recent Trends in Cosmetic Dentistry
While the main reason behind cosmetic dentistry remains steady (smile makeovers), every few years or so the type of cosmetic procedure requested from patients changes. A lot of that has to do with how the economy is faring. For example, when stimulus checks were plenty we saw an influx of people wanting to splurge a little on themselves. And we had many patients requesting veneer treatments (which are Dr. Frazar’s favorite type of cosmetic dentistry). Currently, more patients are requesting tooth whitening and/or orthodontics with clear aligners.

Gum Disease Now Linked to Mental Health Issues and Autoimmune Diseases
One of the largest and most comprehensive studies to date has determined that gum disease increases one’s risk of developing cardiovascular and autoimmune diseases as well as mental health issues.

Veneers Without Shaving Teeth: Try Lumineers
You’ve heard that veneers can give you the flawless smile you’ve always wanted. But the reduction of your natural teeth necessary to place conventional veneers has kept you from investing in this cosmetic procedure. Now you can have the best of both worlds through “prepless” veneers, such as Lumineers, which don’t require shaving the teeth.

Your Migraines, Vertigo, or More Might Be Caused By a TMJ Disorder
When your dentist asks you to open and close your mouth, she’s not just looking to see if your bite is correct, she’s also determining if your jaw hinges open and closes properly.

Treating Sleep Apnea in Houston, Bellaire, and Beyond
Dentists are considered the first line of defense when it comes to obstructive sleep apnea as, during our routine dental examinations, we can recognize a small upper airway and other signs of OSA such as tooth grinding and redness in the throat. Your overall health is important to us and is one reason we list sleep apnea treatment as one of the services we offer.

Why Dental Implants Are Your Best Option
If you or a loved one is missing one or more teeth or have broken or decayed teeth that are beyond repair, please keep reading to find out why The Houston Dentists believes dental implants are the best plan to replace that tooth (or teeth). The dental implant technique is not new; it has been successfully used for more than 50 years with dental patients who are suitable to receive them. And, with proper care, implants can last a lifetime, unlike other procedures.

’Tis the Season to Indulge

What is an Oral Fibroma? How is it Diagnosed and Treated?
An oral fibroma affects approximately 1-2% of the population, and occurs in both adult men and women.Oral fibromas are sometimes referred to as traumatic fibromas. The term “traumatic fibroma” refers to when a person repeatedly bites or irritates the affected area. When this consistently happens, the oral fibromas gets bigger and more troublesome every time.

Gum Disease and Tooth Decay are Detrimental to Your Overall Health
Next to tooth decay, gum disease (periodontitis) is one of the most common global diseases. Early-onset periodontitis, often called the silent disease, is normally quite treatable. However, with its mild symptoms and slow progression, it is hard to detect without regular dental checkups. If it continues undiagnosed, periodontitis can lead to tooth loss and a host of other problems, and it can easily cost thousands of dollars to treat. It is also associated with other health issues, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The main causes of this disease are poor oral hygiene and tobacco use.

Helping Others Through Star of Hope
Supporting the community we’re in is not something we talk a lot about but we do and have done––in various ways––for more than 30 years. It’s important to us to give back when we can to help others––sometimes it’s people we know and sometimes it’s people we may not know (yet). Either way, each year we’re helping people who are right here in Bellaire and our surrounding communities.

Why Pinhole Surgical Technique is Our Top Choice for Treating Receding Gums
At The Houston Dentists, we pride ourselves on keeping up with new trends in dentistry and discerning which ones are credible and merit more in-depth research to potentially bring to our practice. One of those is the Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST) that we’ve now been performing for more than five years. We recommend it to our patients who have receding gums (gingival recession). In our opinion, it’s better than the traditional connective tissue graft (or gum grafting) which should only be performed as a last result or for the few times when PST will not work. What makes PST better?

Are you interested in getting dental veneers for a brand new smile, but you are concerned about how long the procedure is? More specifically, are you concerned about the recovery time with the porcelain veneers procedure?
