Brushing, flossing, and visiting your dentist for cleanings twice per year is imperative to not only your oral health but your body’s overall health.

Did you know more than 40 percent of people age 30 and older in the U.S. suffer from periodontitis?

Here’s the thing, those with gum infection/inflammation are more susceptible to other diseases (heart, kidney, diabetes, Alzheimer’s) and infections because it’s harder to keep harmful bacteria at bay.

And one of those diseases is colon/colorectal cancer or CRC. A new study found CRC diagnoses were nearly 50 percent higher in people with a history of periodontal disease than in those with no such history.

So what can you do to keep periodontal disease at bay?

Be honest with yourself. Are you flossing daily? Are you brushing your teeth and gums twice a day for two minutes at a time? Are you keeping your dental check-up appointments?

If you’re susceptible to plaque, ask Dr. Frazar and the hygienist what more you can do as they’ll have suggestions. As biological dentists, The Houston Dentists (located in Bellaire) take your whole-body health seriously.

Putting off your dental cleanings can truly cost you more money down the line and could potentially cause you serious health issues. If you’re having a hard time making ends meet right now, contact The Houston Dentists to find out how we can confidentially work with you to ensure you can see us for your cleanings (and more).
